canticum Asaph attamen bonus est Israhel Deus his qui mundo sunt corde
psalmus Asaph quam bonus Israhel Deus his qui recto sunt corde
A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart!

mei autem paene vacillaverunt pedes paene effusi sunt gressus mei
mei autem paene moti sunt pedes paene effusi sunt gressus mei
But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped.
|
| 3 |
quia aemulatus sum contra iniquos pacem impiorum videns
quia zelavi super iniquis pacem peccatorum videns
Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners.
|
| 4 |
quod non recogitaverint de morte sua et firma sint vestibula eorum
quia non est respectus morti eorum et firmamentum in plaga eorum
For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes.
|
| 5 |
in labore hominum non sunt et cum hominibus non flagellabuntur
in labore hominum non sunt et cum hominibus non flagellabuntur
They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men.
|

ideo nutriti sunt ad superbiam circumdederunt iniquitatem sibi
ideo tenuit eos superbia operti sunt iniquitate et impietate sua
Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness.
|

processerunt a pinguidine oculi eorum transierunt cogitationes cordis
prodiet quasi ex adipe iniquitas eorum transierunt in affectum cordis
Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart.
|

inriserunt et locuti sunt in malitia calumniam de excelso loquentes
cogitaverunt et locuti sunt in nequitia iniquitatem in excelso locuti sunt
They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high.
|
| 9 |
posuerunt in caelo os suum et lingua eorum deambulavit in terra
posuerunt in caelum os suum et lingua eorum transivit in terra
They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth.
|
| 10 |
propterea convertetur populus eius hic et quis plenus invenietur in eis
ideo convertetur populus meus hic et dies pleni invenientur in eis
Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them.
|
| 11 |
et dixerunt quomodo novit Deus et si est scientia in Excelso
et dixerunt quomodo scit Deus et si est scientia in Excelso
And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
|
| 12 |
ecce isti impii et abundantes in saeculo multiplicaverunt divitias
ecce ipsi peccatores et abundantes in saeculo obtinuerunt divitias
Behold these are sinners; and yet, abounding in the world they have obtained riches.
|
| 13 |
ergone frustra mundavi cor meum et lavi in innocentia manus meas
et dixi; ergo sine causa iustificavi cor meum et lavi inter innocentes manus meas
And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent.
|
| 14 |
et fui flagellatus tota die et increpatio mea in matutinis
et fui flagellatus tota die et castigatio mea in matutino
And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings.
|
| 15 |
dixi si narravero sic ecce generationem filiorum tuorum reliqui
si dicebam narrabo sic ecce nationem filiorum tuorum reprobavi
If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children.
|
| 16 |
et cogitavi ut intellegerem istud labor est in oculis meis
et existimabam cognoscere hoc labor est ante me
I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight:

donec veniam ad sanctuaria Dei intellegam in novissimo eorum
donec intrem in sanctuarium Dei intellegam in novissimis eorum
Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends.
|
| 18 |
verumtamen in lubrico posuisti eos deiecisti eos ad interitum
verumtamen propter dolos posuisti eis deiecisti eos dum adlevarentur
But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down.
|
| 19 |
quomodo vastati sunt subito defecerunt consumpti sunt quasi non sint
quomodo facti sunt in desolationem subito defecerunt perierunt propter iniquitatem suam
How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity.
|
| 20 |
quasi somnium evigilantis Domine in civitate tua imaginem eorum ad nihilum rediges
velut somnium surgentium Domine in civitate tua imaginem ipsorum ad nihilum rediges
As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing.
|
| 21 |
quia contractum est cor meum et lumbi mei velut ignis fumigans
quia inflammatum est cor meum et renes mei commutati sunt
For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed:
|
| 22 |
et ego insipiens et nescius
et ego ad nihilum redactus sum et nescivi
And I am brought to nothing, and I knew not.
|
| 23 |
quasi iumentum factus sum apud te et eram semper tecum
ut iumentum factus sum apud te et ego semper tecum
I am become as a beast before thee: and I am always with thee.
|
| 24 |
et tenebas manum dexteram meam in consilium tuum deduces me et postea in gloria suscipies me
tenuisti manum dexteram meam et in voluntate tua deduxisti me et cum gloria suscepisti me
Thou hast held me by my right hand; and by thy will thou hast conducted me, and with thy glory thou hast received me.

quid mihi est in caelo et tecum nolui in terra
quid enim mihi est in caelo et a te quid volui super terram
For what have I in heaven? and besides thee what do I desire upon earth?
|
| 26 |
consumpta est caro mea et cor meum robur cordis mei et pars mea Deus in aeternum
defecit caro mea et cor meum Deus cordis mei et pars mea Deus in aeternum
For thee my flesh and my heart hath fainted away: thou art the God of my heart, and the God that is my portion for ever.
|
| 27 |
quia ecce qui elongant se a te peribunt perdidisti omnem fornicantem a te
quia ecce qui elongant se a te peribunt perdidisti omnem qui fornicatur abs te
For behold they that go far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that are disloyal to thee.
|
| 28 |
mihi autem adpropinquare Deo bonum est posui in Domino Deo spem meam ut narrem omnes adnuntiationes tuas
mihi autem adherere Deo bonum est ponere in Domino Deo spem meam ut adnuntiem omnes praedicationes tuas in portis filiae Sion;
But it is good for me to adhere to my God, to put my hope in the Lord God: That I may declare all thy praises, in the gates of the daughter of Sion.
